Introduction
Redgate
Smithy is a 200 year old converted blacksmith’s cottage and forge, in a
rural location, offering bed and breakfast accommodation. There are three
Guest Bedrooms, all located on the first floor; two double rooms, and a
twin room. Breakfast is served in the ground floor Conservatory, which
guests may also use as a lounge. There is a wooded garden with various
seating areas. The house is totally non-smoking.
Public
Transport Links
Most
of our guests arrive by car, but there is a mainline railway station at
Liskeard, about 3˝ miles away, and taxis are available.
Approach
and Car Parking
Redgate Smithy is
situated about half-way between Doublebois and Minions, up on Bodmin Moor.
The house is at the crossroads, on a quiet lane. There is a large granite
chippings parking area for up to four cars, with ample turning space. A
granite drive and path leads to the main entrance of the house. The car
park is lit at night by three security lights on motion sensors.
Main
Entrance
The front door is of
standard width and leads into a glazed porch, over a raised threshold and
small step down. The floor is slate tiled.
Public
Areas (Ground Floor)
The main reception
area is through a glazed door and is slate tiled. A step and raised threshold
leads into the Conservatory, through glazed double doors, which is floored
in wood-effect vinyl. A glazed double door leads out to the garden, with another
raised threshold.
Garden
There are paved steps
up to the paved patio area, and granite chippings/wooden sleeper steps to
the rest of the garden. Granite paths wind through trees and shrubbery,
leading to the paved top patio area. There are three gates out to the
drive/parking area which are of standard width, and must be kept closed at
all times, for security of our dog (a cocker spaniel) and any guests’
dogs.
Guest
Bedrooms
The
three Guest Bedrooms are on the first floor, leading off a small landing,
accessed via a carpeted staircase from the main reception area. There is a
banister on one side. The staircase is L-shaped with a mid-way landing.
All doors are standard width.

Special
Needs
Guests with
special dietary requirements can be accommodated with advance notice. All
of our breakfast dishes are prepared in-house, using locally sourced
products where-ever possible.
Children
Children
12 years of age and over are welcome. We are not equipped for
accommodating younger children.
Pets
Redgate
Smithy is a pet-friendly B&B. We have a cocker spaniel called Sinbad
who is quiet and well-behaved. Guests are requested to exercise their dogs
down the lane, and pick-up bags are provided in the porch, along with
towels. There is a waste bin near the garage. We can also provide dog-beds
and bowls. Guests are requested not to bring dogs into the Conservatory
during breakfast. They may remain in the rooms if there is no risk of
damage, relax in their owners’ cars, or be tied outside in good weather!
